· PIZZA LUNCH - every tuesday at noon during the academic year
an informal discussion and presentation session, in Pupin room 1402 (the astronomy library)
· ASTROFEST - once every beginning of the academic year
a yearly day-long bash where Columbia astronomers and astrophysicists come together to talk about each other's research, in the form of short presentations by investigators; followed by ASTROFEAST!
· BISHOP LECTURE - once every one year or two in spring
The Bishop Lectures at Columbia University keep alive in the department of Astronomy the tradition of scholarly work, intellectual passion, and joie de vivre which Jeff Bishop exemplified in his all-too-short tenure with us.
· BIG APPLE COLLOQUIUM - once or twice a year
These special colloquia feature sough-after speakers, and are shared by the Astronomy and Physics Departments at Columbia, the Physics Department at NYU, and the Astrophysics Department at AMNH. They are held at one of the above institutions approximately twice a year.
· MORNING COFFEE - Moday and Thursday mornings in the library
morning chats with coffee and tea
· JOURNAL CLUB - once every week
read interesting papers, listen to brief presentation, discuss with others

· GALAXY JOURNAL CLUB - once every week 1:00pm in the Library,
Two or three papers on any of a number of topics (large scale, star formation in galaxies, interactions, galactic evolution, etc ...) relating to galxaxies are discussed during the meeting. Discussion on a paper directly related to your own work (even accompanied by an image or a plot) is a valid option. Visitors are always welcome to talk about their current research.
· REDSHIFT - The Astronomy Club at Columbia University.
Recognized in 2004 by the Barnard SGA and the Columbia Dept. of Astronomy,
redShift hosts fun astronomy-related events. The club
is uniquely inclusive, with 100+ members representing 10 Columbia
undergraduate and graduate schools and ~ 40 areas of study.
