Remote Reconnaissance of Exosolar Systems

During the past few years a few advanced and complex instruments designed to detect and characterize exoplanets directly, through photometry, astrometry and spectroscopy, have been placed into operation. New results are arising as these new instruments, notably Project 1640 at Palomar and the Gemini Planet Imager in Chile, have begun new surveys of some few hundred nearby stars. I will review results from these projects and present some ideas concerning the population of companions of stars in general.

Followed by wine and cheese in Pupin 1402.
