Professor Hailey received his B.A. from Cornell University and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. He was a research scientist and later a program leader for Astrophysics in the Physics Department at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; he also worked at KMS Fusion, Inc. as a senior research scientist before joining the Columbia faculty.
