Columbia Astro PhD grad Nick Scoville wins AAS Henry Norris Russell Lectureship

Nicholas (Nick) Z. Scoville, Caltech Francis L. Moseley Professor of Astronomy, Emeritus and Columbia B.A. (1967) and Ph.D. (1972), has won the AAS Henry Norris Russell Lectureship. The Russell Lecturer is normally chosen annually on the basis of a lifetime of eminence in astronomical research. The award was given "For lifelong contributions to our understanding of molecular gas and star formation in the Milky Way and other galaxies, for visionary leadership, and for inspiring generations of early career astronomers." Nick has collaborated with Columbia faculty and students on a range of projects connected to gas and galaxy evolution. In 2011 he also delivered Columbia Astronomy's 16th Annual Bishop Lecture on "Evolution of Cosmic Large Scale Structure and Galaxies from the COSMOS Survey"
