Columbia students honored by the Astronomical Society of New York

The Astronomical Society of New York (ASNY) has awarded its annual research prizes to two students from the Columbia Astronomy Department:

Briley Lewis (CC ’18) has won the ASNY Undergraduate Research Prize for her work with Rebecca Oppenheimer, Curator at the American Museum of Natural History, on "Project 1640" - a planet-hunting instrument.

Sarah Pearson's paper entitled "Gaps in Globular Cluster Stream: Pal 5 and the Galactic Bar" is the winner for this year's graduate student ASNY Research Prize.

Both prize winners are invited to give talks at the Fall ASNY meeting at Union College on Saturday, November 11th.
