Median Grades

In 1996 the University Registrar began publishing online median grade reports — an indication of the grades awarded in all undergraduate courses at Cornell. The move came in preparation for a much larger transition: the publishing of median course grades on Cornell transcripts. This year's seniors, the Class of 2012, will be the first class where all students will recieve transcripts with these grades listed.

This interactive infographic transforms the Fall 2009 Median Grade Report into a visual form you can explore and manipulate. Use the tabs above to navigate, or click below to begin.

FAQ

For a selected grade (e.g. B+), each blue bar tells you what percentage of courses within a department awards that median grade.

Move your mouse over a blue bar from the graph above, and that department will display down here. You'll see a larger display of the current figure, along with the department's full name. The smaller bar graph (red bars) shows the distribution of all median grades in only the chosen department.
