The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence in the 21st Century

Fifty years ago, scientist first began surveying the sky for interstellar
messages encoded in radio waves. While the discovery of an alien civilization
has eluded all efforts so far, there are reasons to remain optimistic about the
prospect of detecting a signal of sentient origin this century. After reviewing
the history of this field, I will explain the tools and strategies of new SETI
programs.
