Research Interests

I’m an experimental particle and astroparticle physicist by training and software developer and data science guy by opportunity. I began my professional career analyzing large data volumes at CERN. Later I led the data processing and analysis project for the Pierre Auger Observatory, which is still measuring the highest energy particles in the universe with a (geographically) huge detector in the Pampa Amarilla in mid-western Argentina. The code base we developed underpins about 130 papers so far. Later on I enjoyed developing primary analysis code for ReadCoor, a startup biotech company, until it was acquired by 10x Genomics. I had a chance to learn things from actual engineers as opposed to physicists masquerading as engineers.

Now I've gone back to my roots as an astroparticle physicist. We are working on establishing the technical readiness level for a potential future dual satellite mission to greatly increase the exposure to ultra-high energy cosmic rays, and possibly find neutrinos originating from cataclysmic cosmic events. Our first order of business is flying a new super-pressure balloon experiment in a few years (the last one popped - no fault of our own)
