Colloquium by Cecilia Garraffo, Harvard

The untapped potential of existing astronomical data for new discoveries is significant, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) offering a new lens to unveil insights that traditional methods might miss. The anticipated data deluge from upcoming observatories like LSST and NASA Roman necessitates AI and machine learning techniques to navigate through this vast data landscape, ensuring significant discoveries are not lost in the process. In this talk I will discuss the AstroAI initiative at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, that focuses on developing specialized AI models for astronomy research. I will address achievements and challenges, as well as the opportunities that the transition into this new era presents for harnessing the full potential of our data.
