Colloquium by Federica Bianco, Univ of Delaware

The sociotechnical astronomy system is undergoing major and disruptive changes. The staggering rate of progress in AI capability and rapid ramping in its adoption, the rise of new transformational surveys, and the fast and chaotic shifting of community norms and practices offer opportunities and challenges. I will discuss the status and promises of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory at the dawn of the Legacy Survey of Space and Time, focus on open challenges and opportunities at the interface of AI and time-domain astronomy, and challenges and opportunities for our communities of practice.
