Seminar by Min-Kai Lin, ASIAA

After their formation, planets continue to interact gravitationally with their nascent protoplanetary disk, producing structures such as gaps and rings that are frequently observed in real disks. Theoretically, rapid inward migration often results from disk-planet interaction and threatens the survival of planetary systems. I will present recent work on disk-planet interaction, focusing on planetary gaps opened by massive planets, and highlight the need to model this process in 3D whenever possible. I will also discuss ongoing efforts to simulate disk-planet interaction under self-consistently driven disk turbulence.
