Karen Perez has been selected as one of 14 finalists in the Scholars Equity Network's "Pay It Forward" initiative. With Caminos Cientificos (Scientific Pathways), Karen is building a Spanish-language science outreach series in Tucson, AZ. Her mission is to inspire young Hispanic students and their families to see themselves in science by connecting them with bilingual scientists who share their language, culture, and stories. Her reason is simple: “When students see someone like them in science, they can begin to believe: ‘That could be me too.’”
Karen earned her PhD from the Astronomy Department at Columbia University and is now a Welch Postdoctoral Fellow at the SETI Institute.
