The Department of Energy's Early Career Research award is designed to bolster the nation’s scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during crucial early career years when many scientists do their most formative work. Congratulations to faculty member Dr. Lorenzo Sironi for receiving this prestigious award for his proposed research on "The interplay of reconnection and turbulence in relativistic plasmas: the case of black hole accretion flows and coronae".

The High Energy Astrophysics Division (HEAD) of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) has awarded the 2022 Rossi Prize to the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) team, which includes Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory Research Scientist, Slavko Bogdanov. The 2022 Rossi Prize citation reads: “To Keith Gendreau, Zaven Arzoumanian and the NICER team for development of the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) and the revolutionary insights it is providing about the extreme environments of neutron stars and black holes, including the first precise and reliable measurement of a pulsar’s mass and radius from detailed modeling of its pulsed waveform.". As Chair of the NICER Science Team working group on pulse waveform modeling, Dr. Bogdanov has made notable contributions to these efforts.
